Typical Day

Since we do so many great things and since different age groups of campers have different programs, there really isn’t any such thing as a “typical” day at Super Duper Arts Camp.  Depending on the age group, the schedule, number of activities and structure of the day will vary to some degree.

That being said, there are some things that we all do to together and some things that all programs have in common.  Overall a “typical” day at Super Duper would be something like this...

Morning

Each morning at drop-off, campers begin the day in their group's designated drop-off area, which we call “Home Base”.  Here, they will check in with their counselor and warm up for the day with some games, drawing or just hanging out and playing with their friends.  This allows campers to settle in before the day begins and for us to make sure all campers are present before we begin our activities for the day.

Then, at about 9:15, counselors lead their groups to the auditorium for our all-camp morning gathering, endearingly (and creatively) referred to as “Announcements”. Here, we welcome all campers, go over daily announcements, acknowledge birthdays and get campers fired up for the day by singing our camp song and ushering in the day with each group belting out their unique cheer.   Counselors then go over the schedule, agenda and goals for the day with their campers and each group sets off on their day of fun.

Schedule & Activities

Once the day begins, each group has a set schedule of activities.  Each age group has a different schedule structure and set of activities.  (Click here to learn more about the different programs).

Generally speaking, we have about 4 or 5 activity periods per day, plus snack & lunch time, when campers get a break from the structured activities and have free time to play or hang out with friends.   Each activity is led by a teacher or specialist IN ADDITION to the counselors assigned to each group.

For our younger campers, we have a range of activities that vary from twice a week to once every two weeks, with art being the only activity we have every day.   Older campers also have activities that vary from day to day, but they also certain activities where they work on larger, cumulative projects a two-week period.

End of the Day

At the end of the day, each group returns to their Home Base to wrap up the day with their counselors, collect their belongings and get ready for pick up.  Campers signed up for carpool line pick up are escorted out the carpool line pick up area, while other campers await pick up or to be checked into Extra Fun Crew.

Variation Among the Days of the Week

While each day follows a similar general strucutre, there is variation in the programming across the different days of the week, depening on the age-bracket and their program.

Typical Schedule

Mondays

Mondays are generally a “normal day”, except for the first Monday of each session has a short period set aside for getting-to-know-you stuff, as well as to set up the goals, rules & expectations for the week.

Tuesdays

Schedule-wise, Tuesdays are pretty normal, but every Tuesday is also Crazy Head, Hands & Feet Day, where campers are invited to do something fun/crazy/silly with their hair, hats, gloves, shoes, socks, etc.   At first, it’s wacky, but the realy beauty is when, as the summer goes along, all the crazy accoutrement just become a normal part of the camp vibe.  It’s awesome when “crazy” becomes “normal.”

Wednesdays

Wednesdays are our Swim Day.   All campers have a chance to go swimming with their group for about an hour of free-swim, followed by lunch, lounging in the sun and popsicles.   (read more about Swim Day)

Thursdays

Whether Thursday is normal or not depends on your age group.  For pre-school - 2nd grade campers, Thursday is the one day a week that doesnt have a special distinction (the counselors affectionately refer to it as “Therapeutic Thursdays”).  For older campers, Thursdays are indeed a special day, as every other Thursday is field trip day for 3rd - 5th graders, while every Thursday is field trip day for 6th-8th graders.  (read more about Field Trips)

Fridays

Fridays are really special as we end each week on a super-fun high note with Fun Fridays.   Each Fun Friday has a distinct theme and brings with it special events, activities and visitors that are in line with the theme.  Campers also dress according to the theme, adding to the kaleidoscope of fun.  (read more about Fun Fridays)
