who we are

Super Duper Arts Camp and The Sunshine Shack preschool were founded by Sara Schuelein-Perets and Segev Perets. Segev & Sara are married (yes, to each other) and live happily with their sons Freddie, Tuvia & Matan, and crazy dog Minty Chocolate. They met & fell in love while engaged in their life's passion working with children. The two teamed up and have been an unstoppable force ever since.

Before they met...

Segev
Born in Israel and raised in Los Angeles, Segev has an educational background in Cultural Anthropology and Transpersonal Psychology. Segev has been teaching and working with children for 19 years, gaining an early foundation from working summers with his mother who was a preschool teacher. He has taught everything from art to cooking to Hebrew to sword fighting and has been a pre-school teacher's assistant, camp director, after-school program coordinator and more, working with all ages of children from virtually every population.

After beginning her training in early childhood education, Sara started her own arts-based child enrichment center in London called Rhyme Time, which specialized in arts classes, events and camps for children ages 2 to 6. She then moved to Los Angeles with her son Freddie, where she embarked on what would prove to be the next serendipitous step in her magical journey. She continued to integrate her passion as an educator, working as a transitions teacher for 2 to 3 year olds.

Sara discovered her strongest passion in this age set and continued to pursue her education in early childhood education. Further inspired with each step along this path, Sara went on to develop a progressive curriculum for her own transitions program which eventually evolved into a thriving preschool. Sara engineered the curriculum and teaching model to reflect the importance of learning through play and creative expression. Sara is now the director and lead teacher at The Sunshine Shack.

Sara
Born in Spokane, WA, raised in Austria and having spent her teen & young adult years in London, Sara is rooted in a background in visual and performing arts as well as in education. Having trained at the prestigious London Academy for Music and Dramatic arts and enjoyed a successful career as a touring theater actress in Europe, Sara then teamed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and Prince Charles's Dramarama to bring Shakespeare, dance and classical theater to under-funded schools with at-risk populations.

In addition to working with children, Segev also has enjoyed some time as a semi-professional artist and still enjoys making art (when he can find the time). Teaming up with Sara not only meant getting the chance to integrate his love of art, experience in education, background in psychology, interest in spiritual growth and passion for children into his labor of love, but also meant finding the love of his life becoming a step-father to the most wonderful boy and embarking on the magical journey that is parenting.
